Nod to Rs-95-cr power infra plan
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has sanctioned a Rs-95-crore investment upgradation plan for Congress Nagar. The tenders for the project would be floated shortly, sources told TOI. The plan aims at improving the quality of power supply and especially reduce voltage fluctuations that are a major problem. This plan also aims to increase the high tension (HT) to low tension (LT) ratio. This not only improves the quality of supply but reduces transmission and distribution (T&D) losses. Higher the voltage level, lower are the losses. The plan includes laying 75 km of 33 KV and 35 km of 11 KV underground cable. At present, around 700 distribution transformers cater to the division. 377 more will be installed to reduce the voltage fluctuations. Around 1,100 transformers would make voltage fluctuations a thing of the past, MSEDCL officials said. The 33 KV Congress Nagar, Sitabuldi and Shankar Nagar substations had been constructed under the Rs-170-crore Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme. Now, these substations are facing the problem of inadequate 132 KV links. A classic example is the Sitabuldi substation. It has two 132 KV links. The first is from Mankapur substation via 33 KV Bijli Nagar substation. The second is from Hingna I via Shankar Nagar substation. The transformers at Bijli Nagar and Shankar Nagar consume most of 132 KV capacity during summer months as a result of which Sitabuldi's capacity lies idle, thus overburdening the nearby substations. MSEDCL will lay two 33 KV cables connecting 132 KV Besa substation passing through Chhatrapati Nagar substation. There will be a bypass mechanism at Chhatrapati Nagar whereby the substation can be connected or disconnected from this link depending upon the need. Another important project is 100% undergrounding of service lines. At present this figure is around 40%. Service lines are those which supply your home or shop from the electric pole. Most of the flat schemes and commercial complexes are already supplied by underground supply cables. Only individual houses and shops are left, sources said. Meanwhile, the transmission company Mahatransco has also submitted a plan to install another 25 MVA 132/33 KV transformer at Hingna I substation. The substation currently has only one 132/33 KV transformer. The second transformer will strengthen the substations of Congress Nagar division. The oil based current transformers (CTs) and potential transformers (Pts) at substations will be replaced by epoxy raisin basin based transformers that are more sturdy.
